Our Approach
Nature supplies. Precision preserves.
We don't believe the laboratory is the enemy of the shore. The ocean produces compounds no chemist could design — and most of them are destroyed by careless handling long before they reach a jar.
Our work is to bridge that gap. Harvest at the right moment. Cold-store within hours. Process below 40°C in sealed, oxygen-free conditions. The equipment is modern; the restraint is old.

Why the Icelandic Ocean Matters
One Coastline
Our marine ingredients are sourced from Iceland's Westfjords, where cold Atlantic waters meet ancient volcanic landscapes.
The Cold Advantage
We favour controlled, low-temperature processing methods designed to respect the natural character of our marine ingredients.
Nothing Taken Unnecessarily
Our marine collagen comes from fishery by-products. No fish is caught specifically for its collagen.
Small Batches. No Shortcuts.
We produce in small batches and work around the natural rhythm of the harvest season.
The founder
"Twelve years at sea taught me the ocean's secrets. Now we bring them to your skin."
Cold Ocean Elements began on the deck of an Icelandic trawler. Twelve years at sea taught its founder a single truth: the ocean protects its own. In water that rarely rises above eight degrees, kelp grows dense with the compounds that let it survive frost, darkness and heavy surf. We harvest those marine ingredients by hand along the Icelandic coast, keep them cold from the first hour, and work them gently into skincare made for modern skin. Nothing rushed. Nothing overstated. Just the cold ocean, carefully kept.

Questions
Common questions
Yes. No ColdOcean product or ingredient is tested on animals at any stage of development or production. Our marine collagen is sourced as a by-product of Iceland's food fisheries — no fish is caught for its skin.
All three key marine ingredients come from Iceland's Westfjords region. Kelp is hand-harvested at low tide on the Westfjords coast. Calcified red algae is sourced from the seabed of Arnarfjörður. Marine collagen peptides come from Icelandic cod, a by-product of the North Atlantic food fishery.
You have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal under Icelandic consumer law (lög nr. 16/2016 um neytendasamninga) — you can return any order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. Hand-Harvested Kelp
Ascophyllum nodosum
Harvested by hand at low tide · Westfjords, Iceland · 64°N
The ocean's oldest moisturiser
Ascophyllum nodosum grows in dense beds along Iceland's Westfjords, where water temperature rarely rises above 8°C. Slow growth in cold water produces a plant rich in fucoidan, alginates and polyphenols — the compounds that give kelp its characteristic ability to hold water against its own surface.
We cut only the upper fronds and leave the holdfast intact, so each plant regenerates within a season. The harvest is by hand, at low tide, on the same shores that have been worked for generations.
Each harvest is timed to the spring tide — the lowest ebb of the lunar cycle — when the kelp beds are fully exposed and the fronds are at their densest.
Active Properties
Calcified Red Algae
Lithothamnion calcareum
Harvested from the seabed · Arnarfjörður, Westfjords · 65°N
Minerals with a postcode
Most mineral ingredients in skincare are mined, refined and shipped from somewhere unnamed. Ours comes from a single fjord in the Icelandic Westfjords, where calcified red algae is harvested under licence and milled into a fine, mineral-dense powder.
Lithothamnion builds a rigid calcium skeleton as it grows, drawing minerals from cold Atlantic seawater over decades. In formula, it lends a soft mineral texture that a synthesised blend does not reproduce.
This is not seaweed in the ordinary sense. The beds in Arnarfjörður have been forming since before Iceland was settled.

Marine Collagen Peptides
Gadus morhua
From Icelandic cod, North Atlantic · full-use fisheries
Collagen from the Cold North Atlantic
Our marine collagen peptides are derived from Icelandic cod skin, a valuable fishery by-product.
Through enzymatic hydrolysis, collagen is broken down into smaller peptides designed for incorporation into skincare formulations. The resulting peptides are water-soluble and readily incorporated into lightweight formulas.
No fish is caught specifically for its collagen. Our peptides are derived entirely from cod skin that arrives as a by-product of Iceland's food fishery — material that would otherwise go unused.
